Best of Savannah

It was three years ago today when E and I first met in the charming city of Savannah. We both loved the time we spent in Savannah, so here’s a post dedicated to our favorite places. I’m sure you could squeeze everything into a weekend.

  • Take a walk around Forsyth Park. Be sure to stop by the Sentient Bean for some coffee (and cookies) when you’re finished.

  • Another great place to grab coffee and pastries (even gluten free ones!) is Gallery Espresso. Here, you’ll see a great mix of interesting characters. People sit on the side walk with their dogs (Mia enjoyed many Sunday mornings here), SCAD students zoom by on their bikes, and tourists take photos in the nearby square.

  • Plan to spend a great deal of your time walking around the squares and enjoying the beautiful historic architecture.

  • No. Four Eleven and One Fish Two Fish are the greatest stores to find unique home furnishings and gifts. Both are on Whitaker Street. Broughton Street also has great shopping and that’s where you’ll find the Savannah Bee Company. Definitely go in for a tupelo honey sample.

  • If you are a lady, put Afternoon Tea on your list. Unfortunately, my favorite place, A Whimsical Teacup has closed, but you still have plenty to choose from.

  • Pick up some inventive chocolate truffles from Wright Square Café. My favorite is the one filled with honey.

  • And if you want to have the best chocolate chip cookie of your life, and have a possible Paula or Jamie Deen sighting, head to Back in the Day Bakery. They also serve excellent sandwiches for lunch.
  • I have to add Vinnie Van Go Go’s to the list since that’s where E and I officially met (bring cash!).

  • It’s also fun to take a stroll down River Street. The shops are mostly touristy, but it’s worth the experience.

  • Be sure you make it to the tavern below the Olde Pink House as well. It’s dark and spooky and this sweet gal will probably be singing.

These may be the best places in Savannah, but I ended up with the best person in Savannah! Awww.

xoxo,

  1. Love Savannah. Went their with my fellow book club members after reading In the Garden of Good and Evil just before they released the movie. We did it in a weekend and stayed in a condo on Tybee Island. We also hit Club One to see Lady Chablias. I think I spelled that wrong but you probably know who I mean. Had my first Woodchuck beer at Churchhill’s Pub and we went out to the cemetery too. We fit in everything we could that was in that book. I’d like to go back sometime.
Thanks for sharing your memories when you found your true love. ;o)
